The Value Behind a Website

John Ovak: Freelance Writer          A website can be used for many things. For many freelance workers it is used primarily to promote their brand and more importantly promote themselves. The website created for John Ovak's com 336 class in college is a perfect example of a website used for self promotion. The contents of the website being purely related to promoting and informing the public of what he does and what he has worked on in the past as examples of his skills. With a home page that has a introductory biography of himself including a portrait, a portfolio of a wide range of skills in writing, graphic design and video editing, a page with contact information and finally a resume across an entire page. In addition to having a custom banner that is the same across all pages of the website. All of these things give the viewer some perspective on John Ovak so he can better promote himself in the way that he wants to.          Furthe...

The struggles and hiccups of creating a guide on how to do something using wikihow  as the website to publish the guide came from way more than just editing the coding for the article. Simply writing the steps was harder than expected. To write a thorough step by step guide on how to cook something took a couple of tries. Avoiding some key mistakes are more difficult than expected on the first day of the project. Using "you" or "I" is more natural than one thinks. When writing a guide, it’s only natural to want to write it as if it was explained one on one with the reader. Sadly, fixing this mistake can take a few attempts and ultimately for this project this mistake took until the final version to get fixed. It’s unbelievable how easy it is to overlook this, and even when writing objectively for other things, writing a guide can land right in the “and now you… so you can… when you are” sentences. Another thing to note about this project was the photos. Now every...

How to make an Authentic Italian Crepe

== Introduction == This recipe is an old South Tyrolean crepe recipe, a Northern Italian crepe with a simplistic recipe. The hardest part about this recipe is the skill of spreading the crepe batter in the pan and getting the pan to the proper temperature. Something to note before following this recipe line for line is that it isn't meant to be to exact measurements. The listed ingredients also will make roughly seven crepes, so if you are cooking this for one please consider that this is meant to be made with a few family or friends eating them as they are cooked; you will have leftovers otherwise and there will be a tip later on for how to properly put these crepes away as leftovers. == Steps == === Tools and Ingredients === # Let's start with grabbing everything we will need for tools in this recipe. Primarily you will need a somewhat flat frying pan, nothing too heavy or big since you will need to pick it up and move it around to evenly spread the batter in it for each and...

Outlines for a WikiHow Project

Three Outlines     There are three topics for this assignment: How to make an authentic Italian crepe How to get around writers block How to put your phone down and keep it that way     Most likely it will be the first topic that gets chosen for this assignment, since it is the most useful and easiest to hit the word count with. The first step would be what tools/items you will need, second is ingredients. The third step would involve how to get started such as oiling your pan and what temperature to set your stove to. Obviously everyone doesn't have the same stove so I'd suggest something like just around a little less than half of your stoves max temperature, so around 4 if its numbered between 1 and 10. If there is ever a time where the word requirement isn't hit, then adding additional information about "if this happens" or "If you mess up" to try and help when things go wrong for the people following the guide will help hit that word count.     Fo...

How important is Social Media?     Everyone will give you a different answer to how important social media is to them. Generalizing, it's usually the younger generations that consider social media a necessary part of everyday life. Yet there are still those who haven't used any social media beyond owning a Facebook account to connect to other things such as this blog needing an email or google+. No matter how important you think it may or may not be, social media is here to stay and has only grown since the early days of the internet. In fact, it has grown so much that it intrudes on our everyday life. Social media goes as far as tracking our likes and dislikes and then sells that information for a sizable profit, as well as social media buying information from third-parties to help create even more of a profile of who we are on and off of social media; all for the sake of money. Nevertheless, we can't just point the blame at social media and pretend like we don't g...
